Welcome to Robotics!

Build #1 - Riley Rover

For the first 5 challenges you will need to build a Riley Rover. Once you are assigned a EV3 kit, it becomes yours to take care of.  When asked to clean up each day, it is your responsibility to check the ground around your workstation for any loose parts.

To complete the first few challenges we are not testing your build skills, we are testing your programming skills. Every group will need to build the Riley Rover.  Please follow the build directions shown below exactly as shown.

Challenge 1: How fast
Graph the time it takes your bot to cover a given distance of time at different power levels.

Challenge 2: There and back again
Time trials against other teams to go 50 cm, turn 180 degrees and come back to the start point.

Challenge 3: The perfect square - no hints this time.
Let's see what you do it on your ownNo time limit on this one, we are going for perfect accuracy; 3 right angles 1 meter apart to put you back on the start point.

Challenge 4: Program your bot to perform a figure 8
Follow the guide to program your bot to travel in a figure 8 path.

Challenge 5: The Maze
Follow the guide to program your bot to travel a path required to complete the maze.

After you have perfected each challenge, please get it confirmed by an adult in the room before proceeding to the next challenge.  You need to have all 5 challenges completed before progressing to the sensor trials.

Challenge 1

Challenge 1

Go straight for 2 meters.
Measure how long it takes!

Challenge 2

Challenge 2

Go Straight for 2 meters.
Then turn 180 degrees at certain speed
Then go back straight 2 meters.

Challenge 3

Go around in a square shape (shown at the left). It is a 90 degree turn each time with 1 meter between adjacent corners.

Challenge 4

Challenge 4

Next, go in a figure 8 shape (shown at the right). The figure 8 doesn't have to look like this, it could be two squares, it could even be like an hourglass!

Challenge 5: The Maze

Now you have all of the the skills to attempt the maze (Shown above)!

Challenge 6

Once you get at least halfway through the maze you can use sensors (shown above)
